:Workcharacteristicsmayindependentlyandjointlyaffectwell-being,sothatwhetherjob demandsdepleteorenergizeemployeesdependsontheresourcesavailableinthejob. However, contradictoryresultsontheirjointeffectshaveemergedsofarintheliterature.Wearguethatthese inconsistenciescanbepartiallyexplainedbytwoargumentsinthecontemporaryliteratureinthefield.
