Instructional Leadership
An education-specific leadership style centered on the school leader's management of teaching and learning: defining the school mission, managing the instructional program (supervising/evaluating instruction, coordinating curriculum, monitoring student progress), and developing a positive school learning climate (Hallinger & Murphy). An INDEPENDENT construct — research (Marks & Printy 2003) shows transformational leadership is necessary but insufficient for school performance without the instructional component.
